Nakuru County has purchased a 14 acre piece of land in Mai Mahiu to be used as public cemetery.

The director of Public Health Mr Samuel King'ori said the land will serve the whole county awaiting acquisition of more land.

Addressing journalists on Wednesday in Nakuru town, King'ori noted that they were awaiting clearance from the environment department before completing the transaction.

"Currently, the land is undergoing an environmental assessment impact by surveyors from the national land commission," he said.

He called for patience saying that funds were available but the suitability of the available grounds was posing a negative impact.

"Cemeteries call for proper assessment that’s why we seem to be taking too long to get suitable grounds. For now all we call for is patience as we try to find an amicable solution," he noted.

This comes at a time when a majority of hospital mortuaries have lamented over congestion due to unclaimed bodies and lack of a cemetery for disposing off the unclaimed bodies.
