The county government of Nakuru has been urged to reclaim all grabbed public lands and develop them.

Molo peace park chairperson Florence Wairimu said the recreation park dubbed “Green Park” has been grabbed and taken over by private developers.

She alleged that the land grabbing culture had deprived Molo residents a public park and a library that were set for construction by the Green Belt Movement.

Wairimu said the Green Belt Movement had set aside Sh600,000 for rehabilitation and construction of a library at the park but the area has been taken over by individuals who have defied efforts to reclaim the park.

“Our aim was to have this place reclaimed and modernised to benefit Molo resident. The delays we are currently experiencing is as a result of the ongoing ownership standoff," added Wairimu.

She said the area is benefiting a few individuals who claim to have acquired it from the defunct Molo Town Council.

Wairimu alleged that some of the council staff dished out public land with impunity abetting the culture of public land grabbing without giving out legal documents.

She challenged the county government to move speedily and repossess the grabbed public park.

Wairimu said records present indicate the area is for public use adding those who grabbed it must be exposed.
