Nakuru County governor Kinuthia Mbugua has defended the frequent foreign trips made by officials in county governments saying that they were necessary.

In an interview on Wednesday, the governor said it was important for people to know that leaders need more knowledge and information on issues affecting their people.

According to Kinuthia the trips also provided useful insights on how to govern.

“Such trips are very important as they are meant to furnish them with new ideas and knowledge,” said Kinuthia.

He denied that such trips were a waste of resources

He said the trips are not meant to squander the tax payer’s money but to equip leaders with some extra knowledge in leadership.

“Attacking leaders because of these trips is misplaced. You can’t just go round the world for the fun of it. How will I lead you when all I know is in Nakuru?” he posed.

He appealed to politicians in the area to stop politicising the foreign trips, claiming they were beneficial to them.

“We are able to learn more about the outside world and what they do that is working well. It is one of the important ways for us to learn more about our ability to stretch ourselves,” he noted.
