A man was sentenced to one year in prison on Thursday by a Nakuru court for pouring hot water on his mother and injuring her.

Paul Kamau, 30, poured hot water on Mary Wangari causing her severe burns on her body on May 14, in Ndeffo area, Njoro Sub county.

According to police, Kamau poured hot water that Wangari was using to prepare tea after she asked him why he sold the maize.

Wangari was taken to Njoro district hospital for treatment

He was apprehended by the police and taken to Njoro police station and later arraigned before Nakuru court.

Kamau pleaded guilty and begged for forgiveness from the court and from his mother sighting that he has a family and his wife is expectant.

“I was drunk when I did the action; I begged the court and my mother to forgive me, I have children and my wife is expectant and she can’t take care of the children,” he said

Appearing before Chief Magistrate Joel Ng’eno he accepted the charges and was sentenced to one year in prison or an alternative fined of Sh. 30,000.
