Nakuru Members of County Assembly now want Nacada to involve them in the fight against illegal liquor.
Speaking in Nakuru on Wednesday, the MCAs said that they had been sidelined in such campaigns yet they were key in the grassroots areas.
"You do not fight illegal liquor in board meetings. We are key at the grassroots and we have been able to do outreaches to the youths to convince them on the dangers of alcoholism. Pouring of the drinks and arresting the drinkers will not convince them to stop drinking," said Lake view MCA Simon Wanango.
He called for NACADA to involve youth groups in the fight especially through drama and songs.
"It would be better if they involved more of rehabilitation instead of focusing on the pouring of the drinks and intimidating the drinkers," he added.
Flamingo MCA Moses Gichangi said that they would start a door to door campaign in a bid to encourage youths to shun drinking.
"Sometimes, it helps when the youths see us as leaders reaching out to them. The best way is to spare our free time by visiting them and allowing them to share their stories with us. This might curb the drinking sprees," he said.
Nominated MCA Esther Njeri Magere pointed out that the women who were addicted to drinking also needed alternative jobs.
"We are also calling for the strict enforcement of the Mututho law which has been greatly neglected," he said.
