Nakuru Women representative, Mary Mbugua has challenged women in Nakuru county to engage in income generating activities to avoid being dependent to their husbands.
Speaking on Tuesday after touring Biashara market, the leader expressed confidence that if given opportunity, women can transform the society for the better.
“What a man can do, a woman can do it better; it sounds a cliché to many but that phrase is very philosophical in that, a society that entrusts women has proved to be better in terms of development, discipline and entrepreneurship,” she noted.
She called on women to give men a run for their money by taking up leadership positions so as to be role models to the young generation.
“Our youths are misbehaving because they tend to emulate bad behaviour from our leaders, a woman is a mother, disciplinarian and adviser; any wayward behaviour is dealt with immediately,” she said.
She stressed the importance of forming groups and chamas, arguing that a society that works together achieves its goals as a block in that everyone feels part of the desired change.
“Collectiveness ensures inclusiveness which is key in instilling confidence amongst us. Let’s work together for the sake of development,” Mbugua advised.
She promised to advocate for allocation of more funds towards the Uwezo fund kitty which she said was the sure way of fuelling woman empowerment and self-sustainability.
