Many children in Kibera live in poverty struggling to raise money for fare to and from school.
Some of them drop out of school after sitting their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education due to lack of school fees.
The Equity Bank Kibera branch says it will now sponsor needy but bright pupils further their studies.
Speaking to this writer on Friday, the bank’s manager David Njoroge said pupils who score 350 marks and above should apply for the Wings to Fly scholarship.
“Equity Bank of Kenya has a programme known as Wings to Fly which helps needy pupils who score 350 marks and above in their KCPE to apply for scholarship. We sponsor the needy pupils and that is what I want Kibera parents to know. If they have a child who scored 350 marks and above and they do not have secondary school fees, they can pick the Wings to Fly form at our office along Ayany Road, fill them as required and return them for processing,” said Njoroge.
Students who have excelled their KCSE and wish to join college or university are also allowed to apply for CDF money to help them pay their fees.
