Kanyagwal MCA Charles Aguko has announced that West Kano Irrigation Scheme farmers will elect new cooperative officials to manage their tractors.
The equipment was donated by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Aguko said farmers must be given a chance to elect officials to run the management of the tractors on behalf of the farmers.
He said JICA only recognises officials managing the tractors. The MCA said the current officials will face an election for the farmers to have faith in the officials.
“It will be up to the farmers to confirm the old office or elect new officials. We have had cases of misappropriation of funds and that is why we want to hold an election,” he explained.
Speaking to farmers at West Kano Irrigation Scheme in Nyando Constituency on Thursday, Aguko announced that the fee required will be paid by the county government.
He said Governor Jack Ranguma will request, through the assembly, to be able to get the Sh63 million required to pay for logistical expenditure.
“Eventually the request will land in the assembly. Remember I am a member of the budget and appropriation, that request will pass, I guarantee you,” he told farmers.
Aguko said if the request is made at the assembly, he will mobilise members to pass the bill that will allow to pave way for the payment of the expenditure.
