The chairman of Sacred Centre for Widows and Orphans, a Kisii-based NGO, Samson Nyandoro has appealed to the Kisii County Government to consider channeling infrastructural support to Kerina Special School for the Deaf in Kisii South Sub-County, to ensure children in the school access their education in a conducive environment.
Nyandoro decried the pathetic learning condition in the school, saying the development had discouraged local parents with special needs in the area from enrolling their children.
Speaking at the School after presenting his NGO's foodstuffs donation to the children, Nyandoro appealed to the County Government to swiftly move in to assist in establishment of learning facilities for the vulnerable children to ensure they have modern learning facilities.
Nyandoro disclosed that his NGO was addressing some basic needs for the children, but called on the District Education Board and other education stakeholders to collaborate with the County Government to ensure the children in the school access their education from environmentally conducive learning situation.
"As an NGO, we have been supporting these children in our small way and feel that the County Government of Kisii can set aside some funds to facilitate establishment of modern learning facilities for the children based on their special needs,” stated Nyandoro.
His sentiments were backed by the NGO's secretary, Robert Gutwa, who also called on the local CDF committee to partner with the Kisii County Government to ensure the school gets infrastructural support in the areas of classrooms and boarding facilities for the children, who he said need specialised attention.
Gutwa said though his NGO has been donating some basic needs to the children, it lacked adequate resources to put up classrooms and boarding facilities.
