People With Disabilities (PWDs) in Kisumu will only be allowed to travel during the day if a bill by Nominated MCA representing PWDs Caroline Agwanda is passed into law.

Agwanda filed as urgent with the clerk of the county assembly a bill seeking to prohibit buses from offering overnight services to people with disabilities in the county.

The Nominated legislator argued that it becomes difficult for the them to get adequate assistance incase of any problem at night.

"Most passengers fall asleep at night when travelling to Nairobi, Mombasa or even Kampala and that is why it is not easy to seek help incase of a problem," said Agwanda.

The MCA said that the bill should not be misinterpreted by members of the public, saying it is aimed at protecting the needs of people living with disabilities.

She was speaking to the press at the County Assembly on Thursday.

Nominated MCA, Lydia Ndege, who supports the bill, says it will protect residents with disabilities and ensure that they access quality and safe transport services like other residents.

"This is a must support bill that will ensure the safety of persons with disabilities when using public transport means," she said.
