Njoro teacher who faced charges of defilement and indecent acts on students have been release on alternative cash bail. Nakuru court has ordered Paul Gicheri be released on a bond of Sh 500,000 with the same amount as a surety or an alternative cash bail of Sh 200,000.

Gicheri who is Kiswahili teacher at Njoro girls High school allegedly defiled a 15 years old student on diverse dates between June 15 and June 28 last year.

He faced other five other accounts of an indecent act on the students between January last year and May this year.

The prosecution had earlier on tell the court to let all the witnesses testify before they release the accused on bond fearing the interference of the information.

The prosecution through state counsel Nancy Ngovi plea to further amend the charges because of the dates that read in the accounts but it felt on deaf hears as the court orders the release on bail.

“The charge sheet should read February 14, 2015 to February 23, 2015, we ask that this amendment should be allowed. On the account it should read February 5th 2014 to May 20th 2015” she said

Gicheri’s lawyer Karanja Mbugua said that the interest of justice should be equally decided by the court sitting that constant amendment by the prosecution should not be allowed.

“The constant amendment disadvantage my client in his defense, they have been in possession of weekly statements, this new amendments will disguise the

Doreen Mulekyo gave the direction that Gicheri be released on bond and he should be reporting for weekly statements at the OCS office in Njoro police station.

“The accused may be released on a surety bond of Sh 500,000 or an alternative cash bail of Sh. 200,000, the accused should report every Friday to the OCS, Njoro during the pending of this case, it will be heard on 18th and 20th of August 2015,” she said

The case will be heard on August 18.
