The hearing of a case against Njoro Girls teacher accused of molesting six students failed to proceed on Tuesday 18, after the defence lawyer applied for continuance.
Paul Gicheri’s lawyer, Karanja Mbugua made an application to the court that he was not ready to proceed because he was not feeling well.
“I have an application to make to the court, I am not feeling well and thus am in position to proceed with the case,” he said.
State counsel Nelly Ngovi objected the application by the defence saying that he did not tell him when they met in the morning at court.
“Am hearing it now that my colleague is not feeling well and we had meet earlier, it could have been fine if we could proceed,” she said.
Paul Gicheri, 52, a Kiswahili teacher at the school, is accused of defiling a 15-year-old minor and sexually molested five others on diverse dates between January 2014 and June2015.
According to police, Gicheri altered marks to gain sexual favours from the students.
On July 8 and July 9, two minors testified in camera against the teacher and the rest were expected to give their testimonies on Tuesday about the incident.
Chief Magistrate Doreen Mulekyo said the case will be mentioned on Thursday hoping that the defence will be ready to proceed.
