Molo Deputy County Commissioner Judith Cheruiyot has told youths in the area that there will be no more drinking of illegal alcohol and brews.

Instead, she has asked them to turn their energy and money to development.

Addressing members of the public at Keringet Town on Wednesday, Cheruiyot said that all illegal alcohol and brew dens have been destroyed.

She said that the crackdown has been successful and has seen thousands of litres of the brews destroyed.

“I am advising our young people to now focus on development and forget about alcohol,” she said

Cheruiyot stated that alcohol abuse and drinking had tuned many youths in the sub-county to zombies.

She noted that many men had abandoned their homes and pitched camp at drinking dens. She added that it is a relief to area women as their husbands and sons will have no option but return home.

Cheruiyot said that a close monitoring exercise will continue to ensure that illegal brewing does not resurface. She asked local chiefs to keep vigil of their localities and take action against people who might be tempted to start brewing.

At the same time, Cheruiyot said that bar licenses will only be given back to operators who will have complied with all required regulations.

She added that no bar or pub will be allowed to operate without property documentation from relevant government agencies.
