The National Transport and Safety Authority has blamed the high number of accidents on Kenyan roads on drunkenness.
NTSA Deputy Director in charge of Corporate Communications Dominic Kabiru said on Tuesday that majority of the accidents are caused by drivers who drink before driving.
Mr Kabiru was speaking during an operation in Nakuru where more than 10 Public Service Vehicles were impounded as their drivers were found drunk.
“We have impounded more than ten drunk PSV drivers. It is very sad that we are losing innocent Kenyans to accidents because of such drivers who work under the influence of alcohol," Kabiru said.
Mr Kabiru said such cases were common in Nairobi.
He said the crackdown on drunk driving will be rolled out to other major towns in the country.
“Statistics do not lie, we want to work towards reducing accidents on the roads all over the country.
"To reduce the number of accidents, we will not relent, we will extend our operations to other towns."
