Uasin Gishu County Governor Jackson Mandago has put on notice nurses who work in the county government hospitals and at the same time own their private clinics that the face sacking.

Speaking in his office on Thursday, Mandago said that he has received reports from the public that some nurses are absconding duty, only to find out that they are in their private clinics attending to other patients using drugs meant for the public.

“Nurses are supposed to work in our county governments’ hospitals as stipulated in their job description and are not allowed whatsoever to operate public clinics since they are supposed to be at their place of work to attend to their patients,” he said.

He noted that the major cause of lack of drugs in public hospitals is the diverting of drugs to private clinics by the said nurses, who take advantage to steal from the government hospitals.

“I urge Uasin Gishu residents to stay vigilant and report any nurse who is absent from duty and yet he or she is in his private clinic attending to his patients and selling drugs meant for to the public with immediate effect, and I promise to fire them and replace them with competent individuals to handle the job,” he added.
