Commission for the Implementation of the Constitution (CIC) Chairman Charles Nyachae wants equal opportunities offered to both the girl and boy child.

Nyachae lamented that girls were historically disadvantaged in terms of access to quality basic and higher education, since their parents gave their boy-child favourable education opportunities to the disadvantage of the girls.

Speaking at Ibeno CoG Primary school, Ibeno Ward in Nyaribari Chache Sub-County during a donation of sanitary pads to school girls, Nyachae challenged local community members to give the girl-child education first priority to ensure girls compete favourably with their boy-child counterparts in all spheres of life.

"As a community, we cannot achieve any meaningful development if we do not empower our women through educating our girls, to ensure they get quality education to compete with boys in a fair playground,” stated Nyachae.

Nyachae warned the local community members against subjecting girls to retrogressive cultural practices, which deprive them of their right to education, since such practices derail the girl-child's dream of excelling both in her education and life careers.

The CIC Boss regretted that though the new constitution had brought with it various opportunities for women, it was not possible for women from the Gusii community to enjoy such opportunities if the community continues discriminating girls when it comes to provision of education.
