Kisumu County governor Jack Ranguma has dispelled fears that the Nyalenda road which is under the Kisumu Urban Project will not be repaired.
Governor Ranguma explained that the project had issues that resulted from variations in the exchange rate and the demand for compensation by locals whose property was in a way will be interfered with.
He said that the initial budget has reduced as a result of the low rates in the exchange rates and with the emerging issues by the locals, the project stands suspended by the implementers.
Governor Ranguma who was briefing Journalists today (Friday) upon his return from a two-week-tour of Asian countries announced that his government will strive to ensure the road is repaired to bitumen standards.
"Even as a county we will put a budget to ensure the road is done to the required standards," said Ranguma.
Nyalenda residents had demanded to be compensated before allowing the Sh360 million project to go on however, there was no budget for compensation forcing the project to be pulled out.
Ranguma also took the opportunity to assure Kisumu residents that Maseno is in Kisumu County and not Vihiga.
He said there are relevant authorities charged with boundary issues which have confirmed that the controversial boundary is in Kisumu.
Vihiga County has in the meantime alleged to have continued with murraming of a road that stretches inside Kisumu County along Maseno Boarder.
