Bobasi MP, Stephen Manoti has said Nyamache Medical Training College will have first intake on September 2015.

Speaking on Saturday during a fundraising event at Nyantira SDA church in Bogetaori ward, Manoti confirmed a total of Sh 2 million has been spent in building classrooms and promised to allocate more funds from the Constituency Development Fund kitty to expand the medical school.

“We have been permitted by the Medical council to have KMTC branch at Nyamache to increase enrollment of nursing and other medical courses from the area and other areas across Kenya. Already two classrooms are complete at a cost of Sh 2 million and we are slated to allocate other Sh 2 million through CDF so that we can have more classrooms and Administration block. We will have the first intake on September this year,” he said.

Students in the upcoming college will be using Nyamache Sub-county hospital and other hospitals in Kisii County for training.

The MP urged form four school leavers from the area to take the advantage of the college to train for diverse medical courses that will be offered in the college.

“Its an opportunity for our children here. Take the advantage with the college that has come near your to train for medical course. It will be cost effective to students from within more especially those who hail from vulnerable backgrounds. However, the institution will not be limited to other students who will want to enroll here. The college is a government institution. Therefore, students from all over Kenya including those from Trans-Mara will enroll in the college,” the legislator noted.

The MP warned those criticizing both County and National governments, that politics would cripple and derail development in the country.

“We will only move our county and country to higher heights if we will only give time to elected leaders to serve the electorate. We cannot afford playing politics all the time, let us wait till 2017 and then we will play politics as we wish but for now, No!” The MP appealed.

The news comes barely two weeks after KMTC management announced plans of expanding the college and make it remain a premier institution in the training of medical courses in the country.

He announced new parallel intakes for the students with an interest in nursing beginning from September this year.

Speaking at KMTC, Kisii County campus when he paid the institution an official visit, the National KIMTC chairman for Board of Management (BOM), Professor Phillip Kaloki said the core rationale of expanding the college was fulfilling the Jubilee manifesto which advocates for training of more personnel that will plug the hole in the manpower service in our health sector.

He further announced that they may enter into a private-public partnership programme in addressing student accommodation challenges in the institution.
