The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) Secretary in Nyamira County Lewish Nyakweba has vowed that teachers won't get back to class until the union calls off the boycott.

Addressing journalist in Nyamira on Monday, Nyakweba noted that teachers will go back to class only if teachers' body orders them to do so.

Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) Secretary in Nyamira County Nicholas Nyang’au said the government should respect the court order and pay teachers the 50 to 60 per cent salary increase.

“If we get our salary increase we will go back to class,” said Nyang’au.

This is the 5th week since the teachers' strike has started.

A section of Gusii parents have asked the national government to pay teachers to end the crisis.

"We want to ask the government to please pay the teachers so that learning in schools can continue," appealed Shadrack Bosire, a parent.
