Residents of Getare village in Chepilat ward have urged the government to expedite investigations into the death of a local politician who is said to have been critical of the county government of Nyamira.

The deceased, Mr Erick Orina, who was murdered last week, had initiated a youth forum that aimed at mobilising residents against the administration of Governor John Nyagarama.

Speaking on Wednesday during the pre-funeral arrangements, area residents led by elder Wilson Okioma challenged the government to carry out independent investigations to unearth the mysterious murder.

“He has been very vocal in matters administration and it will be against natural justice if we are not told how he was killed. There is a human hand in this murder and the government ought to chip in and help us unearth the mystery,” he said.

According to them, doctors and police from Keroka had blocked the investigations by dismissing the application of the family to have the postmortem results revealed.

“We strongly suspect that there is a game being played here and that is completely unacceptable. Postmortem results should be released before we do the burial and doctors from Keroka district hospital should rise up to the occasion and deal with the issue,” he added.

Efforts to reach Dr John Ongaro who is in charge of Keroka hospital could not bear fruits since he was said to be in Nairobi attending a seminar.
