A 21-year old girl from Esani region in Kitutu Masaba constituency, who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, will undergo an operation at Kenyatta National Hospital after a local politician mobilized other locals to raise 400,000kshs.
Alice Nyamumbo who dropped from Kericho Teachers Training College after she was detected with breast Cancer. Her case got the attention of local politician Victor Ogeto.
On Sunday Ogeto asked the government to provide cancer screening equipment to all Level 5 Hospitals across the country to avert the rising cases of cancer in the nation.
“Sometimes it really hearts that young ladies like this, with full of life a head of her has to undergo a breast cut simply because the cancer has developed. The government should provide cancer equipment to all public Level 5 hospitals so that our people can get free screening,” he said.
Ogeto further urged the county government of Nyamira to invest more in the health sector, which is said to be struggling since devolution took effect in 2013.
“As a county, we are not really doing well in terms of health. The county for instance allocated Sh 1billion for the financial year 2015/16 but unfortunately, almost 80% of this money will go for recurrent expenditures,” he said.
During the fundraising Ogeto contributed Sh 250,000 with Nyamira Governor’s representative Dominic Oiko donating Sh 100,000 that will see Nyamumbo, who has been receiving treatment at Moi Referral be transferred to KNH in Nairobi.
