The crackdown on illicit brewers that kicked off over a month ago has received a great boost in Nyamira County after a group of women vowed to tame those still participating in the business.

Speaking at Nyabuya village on Friday in Kitutu Masaba constituency, several women led by former councilor Jane Mokaya accused area administration officers of alleged slow down and vowed to push for apprehension of perpetrators.

They said the brewers were still in the business, making men and youths still continue absconding their responsibilities at home hence affecting the economy of the nation negatively.

“The crackdown hasn’t yielded anything and we have information that some administrators are working hand in hand with the offenders to continue with the brewing. Our men and children have turned not the dens and they are doing it secretly,” she said.

According to them, notorious brewers were executing their duties with a lot of impunity, questioning, therefore, the role of provincial administration.

“Some of the brewers are common here and no one can convince me that it is impractical. They make come on board and fight the vice with us or lose their jobs,” she added.

They vowed to lead the major crackdown on the crusaders of illicit brewing besides preparing a list of administrators who have allegedly been supporting the business.

“We are soon coming with a list of those protecting this crime by using their positions in the society. We will stand firm till this vice is completely eradicated from our area,” added Mrs Agnes Ominde.
