A group of women from Nyamira County have accused the incumbent Women Representative for allegedly failing to traverse the region and help them find the best way of accessing economic opportunities.

Speaking at Mochenwa SDA church on Saturday, the group, which was led by Jerusa Momanyi, alleged that Alice Chae had failed to reach out to women from the entire county, and had instead shifted her residence to Nairobi.

They blamed Chae for the alleged discrimination over women in the county government, and urged her to rectify the situation before they take a further step.

“Our women rep was elected to represent our interests not only in the national government but also in the county government. She has instead shifted to Nairobi and many residents are unable to reach her. Women as discriminated in our county because no one is ready to help us,” she said.

According to them, many women from the area were unable to access Women Enterprise fund due to little publicity and public knowledge, a function believed to belong to the Women Rep.

“She has totally failed to help women reach the enterprise fund and other opportunities. She should come to the villages and help us deal with the issue,” added Verah Ogamba.

However, Chae, through her representative Mary Nyangw’ono defended herself from the accusation and said Women Reps will be able to reach residents starting this financial year after they were allocated by the parliamentary budget committee.

“Women Reps were not allocated anything a part from their salaries, but I am confident that they will execute their responsibilities since parliament allocated them some money in the financial year 2015/16,” she said.
