Newly married women from Entorobo village in Nyamira County have formed a women’s group to empower them economically.
Speaking on Thursday after the successful formation of a 50 member group, Chairlady Mercy Moraa lauded young women for responding to her plea besides calling for more members to join.
According to her, the group’s first objective is to invest in the real estate and in the transport sector besides supporting education among the youths in the society.
“This is a dream come true. I have been lobbying to have young women form a group and I am happy that they have responded positively. As a group, we will target invest sting in the real estate and in the transport system besides supporting educational activities in the region,” she said.
“We have agreed to pay Sh1000 per month a fine of Sh200 for those who fail to comply in time. This is because for the group to thrive, rules and regulations ought to be followed,” she said.
They urged fellow women to venture into small businesses either as group or as individuals and desist from depending on their husbands.
“One thing that is dragging us behind is the perception that a man has to provide for us. We must rise up and take opportunities either as individuals or as groups if at all we want to succeed,” said Alice Ondere.
