Youths from Nyamira County have unanimously agreed to forge a common plan together and fight for equal representation in county government and progressive development politics as the way to promote meaningful developments in the region.

Led by Yes Youth Can chairman Justus Maeche in Gesima ward on Thursday, the youths vowed to shun divisive politicians in the region for the sake of development.

They said the young generation will no longer be used by politicians to score their selfish interests and unemployment as the major factor leading to frustrations among them.

“We cannot deny the fact that many youths are unemployed despite having acquired skills from different institutions. That doesn’t however mean that we are treated as second class citizens by being used by politicians who want to achieve their selfish interests. We are ready to support development in the county for the sake of our people,” Maeche said.

They blamed politicians from the county for engaging in endless intrigues leading to derailing of development under the new dispensation of county units.

“We know there are a lot of opportunities in the county governments but we haven’t been able to utilise them fully due to periodical intrigues between among county leaders. Most of them are using youths to settle political scores and that is what we are against,” he added.

Youth Senate chairman Jason Mogire urged youths to be more innovative by venturing in the entrepreneurial world to uplift them from abject poverty.

“The only way out of poverty is being innovative and reaping from your thinking. Let us avoid being used by hungry politicians. We have a bright future and that can be gained if we forge a common plan of supporting development oriented leaders,” he said.
