Nyando MP Fred Outa is pushing for the removal of the sub county security chiefs over their failure to tame insecurity.

Outa says that lives and property of people in his constituency are at stake following cases of insecurity in the area.

He accused Ahero Officer Commanding Police Station (OCPD) and District Criminal Investigating Officer (DCIO) over laxity while saying some officers have overstayed at the station.

“My people cannot be killed and harassed by criminals at Ahero which is barely 200 metres from the police station and nothing is happening,” he said.

The MP said that they needed to be transferred elsewhere and be replaced with new officers who he says can fight criminals in the area.

"People are tired of the two officers manning the station. I am in talks with the cabinet secretary for internal security J to have the officers’ transferred," he said.

Speaking to Hivisasa over phone, the MP expressed regret over increased insecurity incidences pointing at the recent killing of a M-PESA agent within Ahero trading centre.

Locals have accused police officers at the station of colluding with criminals claiming they have made no arrests related to the issue.

Last week, thugs hijacked a Kisumu bound bus that was travelling from Nairobi at 8pm next to Ahero along Kisumu-Nairobi Highway and robbed passengers of their valuables.

Outa said he would not sit back and watch as criminals take over Ahero yet there are security personnel "being paid by taxpayers’ money".

“If they cannot be transferred, then I will organise a peaceful demonstration to tell the government that we don’t need the officers,” he said.
