Nyansiongo tea factory management has found itself in unfamiliar situation, after area farmers launched a complaint over alleged plan to steal their cumulative Kilograms ahead of mini-bonuses.

On Monday, several famers paraded at the factory’s headquarters in Kijauri township, and compelled the management to explain circumstances that led to an error where cumulative weight excluded that of April and May ahead of the bonuses.

They accused the management of plotting to steal from them by confusing farmers, most of them who are said to be illiterate.

“We want to know why the management is taking us for granted. Our cumulative weight of Kilogrammes in the moths of April and May are not shown in the most recent pay slip and that is just an indication of foul play. They are taking advantage of our literacy level to defraud us,” said Zachary Makori of Nyaronge.

They demanded that the management explain the error and rectify it without any condition, besides demanding that those behind it to be suspended from the company.

“We are aware of a plan to short change us and that is unacceptable. The company must rectify the error and take a decisive step against those behind the scheme,” added Mogaka Ombwori.

However, the factory’s chairperson Christopher Nyakora termed the problem as ‘slight and comprehensible’, and urged farmers to give the management time to handle it.

“It was a slight problem and that is comprehensible. The mistake was from computing error and everything is being done to handle the situation. It is important that farmers give us time to handle the problem. There is no foul play at all,” he said.
