Nyanza Internally Displaced Persons Network has threatened a sit in at Devolution CS Anne Waiguru’s office following her announcement that there is no more compensation for IDPs.

The network’s chairman Nelson Owegi said his members are still languishing in poverty following the post-election violence.

Owegi said the government has failed to resettle the IDPs who were integrated in households within the region.

“The statement from Waiguru is startling because no IDP from this region has been resettled and compensated. We are being marginalised,” he said.

Speaking to the press in Kisumu on Monday at Social Centre, Owegi said the IDPs in the region have not been resettled and wondered why the cabinet secretary is terminating the resettle programme.

He appealed to the government to make known IDPs from the region who have benefitted from the resettlement programme.

“If indeed all IDPs in the country have been resettled and compensated then we demand a list of Nyanza IDPs who benefitted because our records shows that no genuine IDP in the region has benefited,” he said.

Owegi said that Sh2.2 billion that was factored in the current budget has not reached the IDPs from the region.

Waiguru recently announced that the government had already resettled and compensated all genuine IDPs and would not consider any more compensations.
