Kiambu Women Representative, Anne Nyokabi has asked elected women leaders in the county to agitate for the rights and interests of their fellow women.
Speaking to journalists at Kikuyu town on Tuesday, Nyokabi said that as elected women leaders they have a responsibility to ensure that the welfare other women is guaranteed and protected.
Nyokabi said that women are facing many challenges which elected leaders should address.
“I urge fellow women leaders to champion the rights of other women,” she said. Nyokabi indicated that women play an important role in the development of society.
She said that many challenges facing the society can be addressed if women leaders spearhead change.
The Kiambu women leader at the same time asked county and national governments to protect women in leadership.
Nyokabi claimed there was an attempt by some leaders to undermine women in leadership.
“The government should protect us from some people who want to undermine our welfare,” she said.
The Women Rep stated that women in leadership and government are facing many issues. “You see us walk and talk but we face many challenges in our duties and we are calling the government to protect us,” she said.
Nyokabi asked women to stand united and fight for their equal representation in government and leadership.
