Residents of Lari Sub-County have been urged to join hands with all the administrative units in the area in a bid to promote peace.
The move is aimed at achieving community policing and the Nyumba Kumi Initiative.
Speaking in his office on Monday, Lari Sub-County AP commander, Mr David Chemwetich said the Nyumba Kumi Initiative has assisted the security personnel in maintaining law and order adding that representatives from every village meet weekly to discuss security issues.
He added that the representatives who attend church services on weekends create awareness by embracing community policing and the Nyumba Kumi initiative.
Chemwetich said they meet after a period of three months to assess their success, challenges and failures during the quarterly report and this has helped the Lari administrative units to strategise on better ways of keeping their areas safe and peaceful.
“These initiatives of leaders meeting coupled with community policing have helped us in making Lari safe and secure. Through the initiative, area leaders have been visiting schools where school children are taught on ways of identifying criminals and terrorists and how they could respond in such a situation," said Chemwetich.
The commandant also said they have arranged rural educative visits in areas such as Kijabe, Kimende and Njabini to create awareness on matters concerning their security.
Chemwetich further said they have already trained on how to vet watchmen before they secure employment to prevent crime.
The AP commander said that this is achieved by ensuring that employers get job seekers' original identification documents while copies are kept for any eventuality.
The AP boss revealed that peaceful co-existence of Lari people have earned Lari community a good reputation adding that delegations from Suba and Makueni Sub-County went to learn about community policing and Nyumba Kumi initiative that have worked effectively in the area making the sub-county an envy of many.
