One person succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment while three are in critical condition and 39 are nursing minor injuries after a mini-bus overturned at Matuu market last night along the Thika-Garissa road.

According to an eye witness, Antony Mumo, the mini-bus was speeding on the busy road when it was overtaken by another bus from the same company and tried to speed up and overtake it in return when a saloon car came speeding from the opposite direction and the two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision.

He said that the bus overturned and crossed the road where it caused a traffic congestion for approximately three hours as police tried to retrieve it and the Red Cross and the public helped in saving the casualties by taking them to Matuu level four hospital.

Area OCPD Edward Kipsang told this writer on phone that the accident only injured passengers from the two vehicles and confirmed that the mini-bus, dubbed Githuya Bus Services, was carrying 39 passengers while the saloon car had only one the driver.

Many of those injured have been treated and discharged while others are still nursing injuries.
