One person has died and three others injured in a road accident at Maanzoni Trading Centre along the Nairobi-Machakos highway.
The accident involving a Saloon car and a canter occurred at 2pm on Sunday, causing traffic snarl-up along the busy road.
The deceased, the driver of the Saloon car died while receiving treatment in hospital.
According to the police, the deceased was trying to overtake a truck before colliding with the canter.
Confirming the incident, Machakos deputy traffic commander Rashid Ali, said the driver of the Saloon car died at Machakos Level Five Hospital where he had been taken for treatment.
He said that the drivers of the canter and truck survived with serious injuries and are receiving treatment at the Machakos Hospital.
“The driver of the small car died on the spot while two other people survived with serious injuries,” he said.
Ali said that the police have launched investigations into the accident.
The deputy police boss warned motorists against flouting traffic regulations.
He said that cases of accidents along the highway are on the rise, adding that a crackdown will be launched soon.
Ali said that more traffic police will be deployed along the busy highway to hunt down rogue motorists.
