Two nominated women senators from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) have challenged embattled Devolution Cabinet Secretary, Anne Waiguru to step aside.
They want Waiguru to immediately step aside and allow for investigations over the loss of over Sh700 million shillings from the National Youth Service (NYS) programme.
Elizabeth Ongoro and Janet Ongera, say Waiguru should follow the move taken by her cabinet colleague Charity Ngilu who stepped aside to pave the way for her investigation by the anti-corruption watchdog.
Speaking at Getenga Primary School, Bassi Chache Ward in Bobasi Constituency, during the burial of Mzee Andrew Arati, the father of Dagoretti North MP, Simba Arati, the two senators challenged her to save the image of women by stepping aside until her name is cleared from the scandal in question.
"If her cabinet colleague, Lands CS Charity Ngilu stepped aside and her case is ongoing, who is Waiguru to cling to her office, yet it is under her watch that millions were lost from the NYS programme," posed Ong'era.
Ong'era challenged Waiguru to resign to stop "embarrassing" women by adhering to the spirit of collective responsibility.
"Corruption is corruption, it does not stop being corruption when a woman is involved. We demand as women of Kenya that Waiguru must step aside and allow for investigations to be conducted to unravel corruption surrounding the NYS programme under her Ministry,"stated Senator Ongoro.
