School going children in Monyerero Ward, Kitutu Chache North constituency in Kisii County are a happy lot, after they received shoe donations from Kisii county governor’s wife.

The Kisii county ‘first lady’ Elizabeth Ongwae, in her efforts to solve issues affecting school going children, gave out two pairs of shoes each to 280 school going pupils.

The first lady said that her office is committed to improving the lives of school going children across the county, adding that the programme will also be extended to all other Wards in the County.

“We are working with your Governor to ensure that all children in the county get access to education, and we have committed ourselves to ensuring that this programme rolls out to all the wards in the county as well,” she said

Ongwae said that the programme also aims at ending the rate of dropouts from schools in the county due to lack of simple basic necessities.

“A child should not miss school just because they cannot get books, afford school fees or are hampered for lack of sanitary pads. We must remove all barriers that stop our children from accessing education,” she said.
