Kisii County governor James Ongwae has promised to look for a piece of land within Kisii town to set up a parking place for personal cars to avoid congestion in Kisii town streets.
According to the county administration, parking of personal cars in various streets congests the town, forcing them to look for a solution.
Speaking in Kisii town on Thursday, Ongwae noted that his government is set to find a piece of land in the town to set up the parking.
“We noticed that the town is so congested because parking stage for personal cars is missing. I assure that soon we can reduce the congestion of vehicles after setting up a parking stage,” noted Ongwae.
According to the county chief, they found most pieces of land had been taken when they came into office as the county government, with other pieces grabbed, making it hard to find free land for parking.
“If I don’t get the piece of land to buy, I am going to share with the national government because it has its lands here in Kisii so that they can give us for setting up a parking stage,” added Ongwae.
The congestion in Kisii town is a great challenge for matatu operators, bodaboda operators and even residents, a situation that will be a thing of the past if the plan by Ongwae is effected.
