It is everyone’s wish to live and eat healthy though it comes with its expenses; fresh vegetables, fruits and natural products for beauty all adding up to a healthy living.

Because of this and the rising cases of lifestyle related diseases such as cancer and hypertension, we nowadays see green leafy, fresh and tantalising vegetables, fruits, arrow roots, sweet potatoes and even fresh maize everywhere and anywhere along the dusty roads of slum areas.

Needless to say, they are sold at very affordable prices so that the common mwananchi can buy without a second thought or bargaining for a lower cost.

The sad thing is that no one ever stops to question the grocers where they get their ever fresh products from before they come to advertise them on the streets regardless of the weather.

It is not doubt that most of these salivating vegetables we hurriedly buy for supper or lunch on our way home are harvested besides sewages.

Most people living in slums have gardens that are ever green because they are always irrigated whether there is rain or during the dry spell since they access ready water from our toilets and bathrooms waste.

Before we blame the county government for not doing its job, let’s first take the responsibility of knowing what exactly we consume before we put our hands in our pockets to buy those "healthy foods" along the road.

The grocers should also be conscious of what they are doing and look forward to having a healthy society rather than having cents in their pockets and increasing the number of patients in our hospitals as time goes by.

Next time you think of the tantalising green sukuma wiki, think twice.
