The Kisumu County government has been urged to engage the national government in solving a boarder row with Vihiga County.

The two counties have for the last six months been engaged in a brawl over the location of the boundary separating the devolved units in Maseno town along the Kisumu-Busia highway.

Each county has been claiming ownership of Maseno town.

"We have seen boarder disputes leading to unrest in some counties in the country," Kenya Female Advisory Organisation Executive Director and Programmes Coordinator Esther Oketch said on Thursday.

"We do not want to reach this level. Both governments should work towards solving this problem ones and for all."

She was speaking to reporters in her office in Kisumu town.

Ms Oketch spoke two months after officials from the National Cohesion and Integration Commission visited Kisumu and Vihiga to seek views on how to solve the row.

During the visit, the officials met Governors Jack Ranguma (Kisumu) and Moses Akaranga (Vihiga) and top security officials in both counties to devise ways of finding a lasting solution to the boarder row that has caused tension along the boundary of the two counties.
