Gatundu North Sub County has over three thousand uncollected identity cards in the sub county registrar office.

According to Patrick Muhia, the registrar, the figure of the uncollected IDs keeps rising daily, as new applicants continue to flock the Sub-County registration offices to seek the document.

Speaking from his office in Kamwangi on Saturday, Muhia said plans have been made to collect the cards and send to area chiefs, and those that will not reach recipients could be returned to the head office.

“Five mobile registration exercises were conducted during the past six months and captured those who have attained 18 years and above but could not travel to this place due to financial and other inability problems,” said Muhia.

He added that the cards cannot be released to village elders as had been requested due to security reasons, stressing that only chiefs could be trusted with the documents.

“Due to ignorance on the importance of the documents, many legible applicants have not bothered to seek the cards this far, but I believe before elections time, mass registration for the documents will be used as a political tool by politicians rather than security,” added Muhia.

Muhia further called on all applicants who applied for the crucial document before March this year to check with his office.
