“Parents should teach sex education to their children early enough so that they have no reason to go experiment with their peers”, Said Fr. Mburu who was speaking in his office on Wednesday.

He also noted that parents stand a better chance than teachers to introduce sex education gradually as the teens become of age. He added that parents of adolescent boys and girls can play an important role in imparting information on sex – related topics considering the fact that they are not prioritized in the primary school curriculum.

“Most often parents feel shy or embarrassed to educate their children about sex but this should not be the case. Parents should discuss matters related to sexuality and should encourage their teenage boys and girls to feel free to ask any questions relating to the matter”, said Fr. Mburu.

The clergyman noted that when young people feel unconnected to their parents, they may involve themselves in activities that put their lives at risk. He said that teenagers make decisions regarding sexual matters depending on the level of knowledge they have on the subject.
