Couples and parents in the rural parts of Kiambu Sub-County have been urged to embrace family planning.
Speaking in her office in Kiambu Town on Wednesday, a health expert, Ms Cindy Mungai, said that people in rural parts of the country have different myths and misconceptions in regard to family planning methods hence they have not embraced them.
She said that people in rural parts end up giving birth to many children due to the myths they have, adding that she offers counseling in regard to family planning methods for free in her office in Kiambu Town.
She said that the government should make an effort to reach those in rural areas and educate them about family planning since most of them have no idea about the various family planning methods that are available.
Mungai said that adverts on television stations do not reach majority of the people in rural places and the government should take a step in educating such people.
"Family planning methods should be embraced in rural areas and to enable that, couples should visit health centres and get advice on the best family planning method that suits them," said Mungai.
The medic also revealed that many rural dwellers have many children whom they cannot adequately care for due to lack of using family planning.
Mungai said this leads to the family not being able to educate the children, who end up becoming a burden to the family and the community, a situation that can be changed if those in rural areas embraced family planning.
