A peace walk initiative targeting the youth from 3 South Nyanza counties has been launched in Nyamira town. The participants are expected to spread the peace and development messages to their counterparts by traversing the three counties.
Speaking on Monday during the launching of the walk that targets Kisii, Nyamira and Migori youth, Nyamira County Executive on Public Administration and Devolved Units Mr. Andrew Ombati said the exercise was necessary to educate youths on their contribution to better governance and economy.
He said that the exercise was prompted by persistent complaints by the youth from the region over matters governance with a number of them still in darkness about the services offered by the county government that directly affect them.
“We decided to use youth to educate their counterparts in the 3 counties about their role in matters governance and development. Many of them are still unable to differentiate between what the county government can offer and what falls under the national government,” Ombati said.
He urged youths to promote peace and development in their regions by grasping development opportunities while emphasising on the 30% constitutional tender rules.
Nyamira youth are expected to join their counterparts in Kisii before proceeding to Kenya-Tanzania border at Isibania. The exercise is expected to be end on 16th October initiated by Migori Governor Okoth Obado.
