A children’s home that collapsed two years ago in Nyansiongo, Kisii County after senior management members relocated to their home countries will resume operations by February 2016, a senior official has revealed.
Nyansiongo Children’s Home closed down indefinitely following a decision by aging proprietor Mr Prandeli Gallio (Italian) relocated to his motherland following his deteriorating health.
A number of children who were under the children home's care were taken into custody by Tumaini Children’s Home in Kisii town.
Philanthropist David Nyameino who led his team in inspecting the premises on Friday commissioned renovation of the premises after getting an okay from the previous management led by ailing Mr Gallio.
“We have started renovations and I expect the work will be completed by February 2016. I was given an okay by the pioneer proprietor when I visited him in Rome a fortnight ago and hopefully, all will be ready by the stipulated period,” he said.
Mr Nyameino said he had constituted a committee that will oversee activities in the children home which has since been dubbed David Children Center.
“I won’t really meddle in matters children's home management that is why I have constituted a committee that will oversee everything under the new management,” he said.
Mr Nyameino, a leading consultant with United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) said children from humble backgrounds will be given first priority in the 100 children capacity center.
“We are able to accommodate only 100 and I think the most vulnerable will be given first priority,” he said.
