Police in Kisii have issued a stern warning against sex workers in the town following reported incidents of insecurity.
This comes after two women alleged to be sex workers were gang raped and died, within a period of one month, with the most recent being on Friday.
Speaking in his office, Kisii Central Police OCS Joseph Ndolo said the insecurity incidents towards the alleged sex workers were their own undoing following spirited efforts to have them abandon the business.
He said the rising insecurity targeting them would soon be directed to innocent residents, warning those still engaging in the business.
“We have dealt with two cases with the most recent being on Friday. We can no longer tolerate gang raping or those engaging in sex business in town. They are exposing innocent Kenyans to unprecedented risks and we have to deal with those who might be found roaming in town,” he said.
He promised a crackdown on various hot spots in which the sex workers are believed to be meeting their clients with Kawanjii identified as the leading spot.
“Many of them are in various catching points and Kawanjii is leading. We will crack a whip on those engaging in the illegal activities. And let those killing people be aware that we will pursuing them for making our town look dangerous for habitation,” he added.
He urged parents from Gusii region and other neighboring counties to record statements about the whereabouts of their female children to help police identify those engaging in the business and deport them to villages as a step towards reducing the gang raping incidents.
