Kisumu Central police boss Christopher Mushimba has commended the residents of Kisumu city for volunteering information in the wake of illicit brew crackdown.
Mushimba said the public have given valuable information that led to the crackdown of the illicit brews in the city.
The OCPD said the “nyumba kumi” initiative is taking root in the community noting that it is the only way to ensure the city is safe from criminal activities. He added that police could not be able to locate place where the illicit brew was being kept or brewed if not the assistance of the public.
“I want to sincerely thank members of the public for giving us information that has led to the nabbing of the illicit liquor. That is team work and Kisumu will be safe,” he said.
Speaking at Tom Mboya estate in Kisumu on Tuesday morning where police nabbed over 1,000 litres of the second generation alcohol, Mushimba said police will continue collaborating with the public.
He said all the illicit brew that has been nabbed by the police in the city was as a result of a tip off from a member of the public.
Mushimba said the crackdown will continue until the city is free from the illicit brew following the directive by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
He said the owner of the house where the liquor was impounded was receiving treatment in a local hospital in the city and will be arraigned in court as soon as he is discharged.
The liquor was transported to police station in three lorries and is destined for destruction on Tuesday.
