Two terror suspects were on Tuesday arrested in Nyamira town after they were spotted by police guarding a bank taking pictures of government buildings including the county commissioner’s complex which also houses the county government and banking institutions.
The two who were later identified as Mohamed Ibrahim, 40 and Edwin Nyandisi Nyamweya, 35 were driven to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) offices where they were interrogated for a couple of hours and found to be giving contradicting statements, according to the county security coordinating officer Mwarungu Mwandoe.
In a preliminary investigation released to journalists on Tuesday by Mwandoe, the two were earlier seen photographing of the Nyamira law courts and the Family Bank on August 10 and 11 respectively.
Mohammed, according to Mwandoe, was brought up in Mombasa and Eastleigh and has worked as an engineer in a private company whereas Nyandisi had worked in Dubai in 2010 as a security guard for four months before he came back home in Nyamira County.
“We are treating them purely as suspects as we continue with investigations to establish their motive behind the photographing of the government buildings and for whom they were working for,” said Mwandoe.
He urged the residents to remain calm as there was no cause for alarm. He at the same time called on the public to share information with the police so as to thwart any evil plan.
He said the two are in police custody assisting officers with investigations.
