Eldoret East Police boss Nelson Talitit has cautioned businessmen in Eldoret town against carrying huge sums of money or keeping the same in their business premises.
Mr Taliti says cases of businessmen and traders being attacked and robbed of the cash in the area are on the rise.
In an interview with the press on Tuesday at his office, Taliti said that criminals are targeting businessmen and traders who carry money or keep it in their work premises.
“We are advising businessmen and traders to use secure ways or channels like banks in transporting or carrying their cash to avoid being robbed,” he said.
Taliti cited the recent killing of a businessman at Action Estate in Eldoret saying that the robbers might have been after the money.
He said that the deceased was robbed Sh100,000 and other valuables by the killers.
Mr Taliti further urged businessmen within Eldoret town to cooperate with the police and report cases of threats against them by criminals.
He said that by working with the police their security and that of their business and property will be guaranteed.
The police boss also sent a stern warning to boda boda operators who could be colluding with criminals saying that they will be dealt with accordingly.
Taliti said that there have been growing concerns that some boda boda riders could be working with criminals.
Several parts of Eldoret town have been experiencing a rise in crime.
In an earlier interview, County Commissioner Mohammed Abdi asked law enforcers to intensify their pursuit against criminals to protect citizens.
The commissioner said that law enforcement officers are mandated to protect citizens and must work diligently in order to fight criminal elements.
