An aspiring MCA from Gesima ward in Nyamira County has called upon youths to take an advantage of their huge of numbers and turn up in large for the scheduled IEBC voter registration in August in a bid to elect one of their own.

Speaking on Saturday when addressing hundreds of Youths from the region ahead of a planned fund drive for area youths, Timothy Omariba, who unsuccessfully competed in 2013 elections, blamed area youths for their predicament, but insisted they had a chance to turn tables around.

He pleaded with IEBC to extend voter registration to major polling centres, besides asking them to collect their ID cards, which are said to be uncollected from Registrar of Person’s offices in Gesima.

“Youths have an opportunity to elect one of their own. The problems we are currently undergoing are our self-creation. We fail to turn up in numbers and choose visionary young leaders. I call upon IEBC to register more youths from this region because many are ready,” he said.

Omariba accused the current leaders in the county of allegedly failing to help the youths get out of abject poverty, and promised to put spirited campaigns to ensure a number of youths are elected to various positions.

“I have said before and I must remind us that we have numbers. Time has come for us to use the advantage and do something extraordinary by electing many youths in 2017. This message is not just for my ward but to all youths in our constituencies,” he added.
