The Ministry of Education has told head teachers in Uasin Gishu County to adhere to traffic rules when transporting students for school activities.

The County Director of Education Yusuf Jiro said schools have not been exempted from adherence to traffic rules, especially on the ban on night travel and overloading.

He said the vice was rampant in the area and was endangering students lives.

Head teachers should also ensure that the vehicles transporting the students are also in good condition, added the county director.

"Head teachers should ensure that the vehicles they use to transport students are insured and should not be overloaded to avoid accidents," said Jiro in his office on Tuesday.

The county education boss further warned school heads against hiring small cars and overloading them with students saying they were endangering the lives of the students.

He said action will be taken against principals found flouting the rules and also asked parents to report such heads to his office.
