Kisii residents have been urged to clear bushes near their homes to free themselves from mosquitoes that are likely to increase due to El Nino rain expected to start in October.

According to health officers, many Kenyans are likely to contract malaria because there will be more breeding grounds for mosquitoes during and after the heavy rains. 

Speaking on Wednesday at Nyanchwa area during community health visit, Kisii County Community Health Officer Kepha King’oina said that they are expecting the percentage of malaria to go high but before that they are encouraging residents to take the necessary measures that will shield them from mosquitoes.

“When we have heard about something which is likely to affect us, it is our mandate to have measures in place by informing our people on how to protect themselves before it happens also make well use of mosquito nets,” said Mr King’oina

Mr King’oina who is also chairman Muungano Youth Group that cleans the town and its environs added that they have started to repair all terraces as one way of preparing for El Nino.
