In a report read by deputy majority leader James Omollo at the county assembly, there were no direct leads on the alleged meat preservation using formalin.

"Organoleptic test failed to detect the claimed formalin in meat. The effort was not in vain since actionable fields were revealed," he said.

However, the report noted that many butcher shops do not meet the standards for butchery.

"Very few butcheries have essential freezers. Not all butcheries get meat from Mamboleo Slaughterhouse, they import from without," Omollo said.

West Nyakach MCA said that many outlets are not able to retail a whole carcass but instead share the quarters.

"The slaughterhouse team have stepped up inspection and already prosecuted a case of those who presented dead animals for slaughter through public information," said Omollo.

Migosi MCA Paul Achayo had initially asked for a statement from the health committee on the claims of using formalin to preserve meat in Migosi, Kondele area in Kisumu.
